FUT Hair Transplant
FUT Hair Transplant: Procedure, Pros & Cons
Also known as the strip procedure, the Follicular Unit Transplantation procedure is the second widely performed hair transplant technique all over the world. The technique utilizes a scalpel to remove hair-bearing skin (strip) from the donor area (back of the head). This strip is then dissected into one or two hair follicles that are implanted artistically in the bald region.
The FUT Procedure
Basing on the fact that many individuals believe that FUE procedure is more pronounced than the FUT hair transplant in India and would love to attain it due to the linear scar created in the FUT, modern methodologies of hair transplantation render the FUT procedure noninvasive, safe, and ideally good for restoring hair. It is unique and provides the best results when performed by a skilled surgeon. The procedure of FUT is as follows;
On the day of the procedure, the scalp is cleaned and demarcated. This makes the surgeon more observant while extracting and implanting hair follicles.
- Anesthesia administration
To render the procedure painless or friendly, the surgeon will administer local anesthesia or will use sedation together with local anesthesia as seen necessary. This will also prevent discomfort.
- Extracting the Strip
The area of a good density, more hair follicles that are resistant to DHT is selected to provide donor hairs. Long vertical incisions will be made in the selected donor region and the strip will be removed using a surgical blade. This strip is removed in a way that the scar size is minimised and at least undetected.
The wound is properly stitched.
The strip of hair is taken to the laboratory and dissected to achieve individual hair follicles. These are carefully separated and then stored in a saline solution for preservation.
- Creation of the Recipient Site
Also known as the bald region, the recipient site is prepared by making tiny incisions using an instrument in the form of a needle.
The individual hair follicles are then meticulously fixed into the incisions made in the recipient region. At VJ’s clinic, the units are implanted in a way that will produce natural results and leaves no chances of hair transplant detection.
The wound will be dressed (strip) and the patient is sent home.
Advantages of FUT hair transplant
- The FUT procedure is ideally the best in case a patient has a big bald region where more hair follicles are required.
- Much as many fear the linear scar, the scar remains hidden in 60% of the patients.
- Numerous procedures such as the Trichophytic technique and micro scalp pigmentation can be performed to hide the scar.
Disadvantages of FUT
- The major disadvantage of the FUT technique remains to be the linear scar, which is created by removing a strip of hair follicles.
- The procedure isn’t that preferred by females.
- It can render the procedure a failure in case performed by an inexperienced surgeon.
When compared to the FUE cost in India, the FUT Hair Transplant Cost in India is much more affordable simply because the grafts are harvested in the form of the strip. The cost is widely perceived to begin from Rs. 35,000.
FUT Vs FUE
You will require a consultation with our experienced surgeon to evaluate the pros and cons of both hair transplant techniques before undergoing any procedure.
To prevent infections, the best post-operative instructions must be provided after both hair transplant techniques, though more vital in the FUT technique since sutures are used.
